Internet Speed Tests: Measure Your Connection and Optimize Performance
How Does Internet Speed Test Work?
A speed test is a tool that allows you to measure the speed of your internet connection in your browser. To run a test, simply connect your device to the internet either through a network cable or WiFi and press the start button on the speed test website. The test program will then connect to three nearby servers and measure the speed of your connection, which can be broken down into four parts: download, upload, connections, and pings.
What do the test results mean?
The download value indicates how much data your connection can transfer from the internet to your device, while the upload value shows how quickly you can transfer files from your device. The number of connections that can be established simultaneously is also measured, and lower response delay, or pings, are preferred for gaming.
What data transfer rates should you expect to see in the test results?
The maximum possible data transmission speed will depend on your connection type, pricing plan, and service provider. For example, ISDN has a maximum possible download speed of 64 Kbit/s, while fibre can reach speeds up to 1 Gbit/s. Comparing your test results to these theoretical maximum speeds can give you an idea of how well your connection measures up.
